"Here" Review"
Mohawk Paper
By Catherine Weddum Mohawk Entertainment Editor

I was quite suprised when hearing Here for the first time, that the first song is instrumental. Its not often that you hear good quality instrumental music. Sometimes frankly, it is just noise that you can headbang to.

Suprise number two: I could actually hear Rob's voice and make out every word on the album. I found this pleasantly refreshing, as sometimes rock singers scream so loud and the distortion is so high that you dont know what they are going on about. The angst and emotion was still there but so were the words.

If I had to compare Cyanide Kiss to anyone, I would say if you took Nirvana and the Smashing Pumpkins and morphed them together, you might come close to the sound of the kiss. There is more melody and softer tones in some of the songs like "Losing" and "So Simple". But other songs like Still Apart and "Lost" have more of a Cobain influence.

I also found the use of keyboards an interesting incorporation. Normally when you think of a rock band you think of the standard drums, bass, lead guitar and second guitar. The keyboard though unusual adds "something more" Its hard to describe, but it sounds like its always meant to be there. Maybe we'll see the use of keyboards more often in rock music. A nice change anyways.

If your stuck in the 90's like myself, I think you'll really enjoy Cyanide Kiss. If not try them anyways you might suprise yourself!
