"Hamilton Music Notes"
by Ric Taylor

Featuring Rob McKenna (guitar, vocals), Jeff McKenna (drums), Matt Kras (keyboards) and Adam Kras (bass),

Cyanide Kiss were doing things differently from the first time I met them. Their debut CD included a full DVD of material at no extra charge… and this weekend, they continue thinking outside of the box with their new collection of songs.
“After our second album Halcyon Daze came out, getting our real music to people who bought the CD but got an infected copy,” offers McKenna on the experiences that influenced this weekend’s digital release of the band’s new CD.
“Apparently there was a mix–up in the studio’s production process. It figures that the one time we do something normal, it doesn’t go right.”

After running into a few snags with their sophomore disc, the CK hunkered down to work on their third album, Corrupt Principles, and realized they’d have to think out of the box again. “It felt like we were back in the early days of Cyanide Kiss where we were exploring new things and just having a lot of fun working on all the material,” recalls McKenna. “It was at that point where we decided that we wanted to do something different with this album.

“We decided that we would do an online album,” he adds. “We like to think of what we do more as art than just music alone. We also very much like dramatic art and so we enjoy providing video and artwork along with the music.” But this isn’t the first online release; local indies are already giving music away for free and Radiohead set the bar with their In Rainbows release, allowing fans to determine what they should pay for the collection of songs.

“We felt that we were a little behind and our idea of doing something different would just be seen as following what some of our favorite bands were doing,” offers McKenna. “So we decided to take the idea one step furtherfor this album — free online album release, online band video biography, online CD release party, online behind the scenes and release past shows online and more. It will be like a scrapbook that will document all the hard work that we put into this album.”

With a total video, audio barrage release for the new CD, Cyanide Kiss hopes to stay afloat in the digital world and encourage fans and new potentials to check out their website starting June 28 to soak in all of the aspects of the new album the band releases over the next month.

“Now people will be able to check out a Cyanide Kiss concert right from their home or work at whatever hour of the day they want,” smiles McKenna. “This is a complete reaction to the digital download society that we live in. If you ask bands that are in the music industry for the money it’s probably a bad thing. If you ask bands that are in it for the love of music it’s probably a good thing. We totally see the future being a complete download society.”
